These 5 easy ways to add farmhouse style are perfect! You can style your home for less by following these 5 rules.

I have always held a spot in my heart for farmhouse style.  Way back when I spent time with my grandparents at their mountain home, I fondly remember all the accents that made their space so memorable to me.  I remember spending hours in my grandfathers garage/stable/shed.  It was a 2 story building sock to the brim with every old tool and piece of equipment he needed, or didn’t need.  Oh, how I wish I would have realized how valuable they would be to me now.

As the farmhouse style get even more popular, so many people are transforming their homes into a cozy and quaint farmhouse retreat.  There is just something about the way the soft and simple accents make you feel.

You can buy so many things to bring your home a nice farmhouse style, but I think there are 5 important elements that can really transform your space.  I give you 5 easy ways to add farmhouse style.

Paint

Every great farmhouse home starts with a great base.  Paint colors say a lot about who we are and what we love.  One way to transform your space is by painting it.  This may seem like an obvious choice, but many ignore this element because it may seem like a lot of work.  The secret is to pick the right colors, and the rest will fall into place.  We all associate farmhouse style with white walls, which is what I have painted in my home.  If you live in a tract style home, use this to your advantage.  Many homes are painted in a simple and generic white.  Once you are done with it, it will no longer be generic.

In my own home, I have used True Value’s stock white, Antique White.  It is the perfect white in my opinion and it is straight off the shelf.

Whatever white you pick, it is a great base to the rest of your home decor.  The next step is to simplify your  decor items.

Natural Wood Accents

Once you have a base on your walls, whether it is a white or a soft green or tan, the next element you can add are natural wood elements.  Whether it be raw, unfinished wood, or rustic barn wood, the natural look of wood is a great accent in farmhouse styled homes.

Found Objects

Farmhouse style is best described with found objects.  Found objects are anything you use in your daily life that are given a new life as a decor piece.  Ladders is one prime example of how we use found objects in decor.  You can use doors(nothing better than chippy white ones), galvanized buckets, wheels, doughbowls, really anything that you find that speaks to you.

I love using old wheels, here I displayed one I found out on our farm.  Literal found object.

Collections

Collections are another great way to bring farmhouse style into your home.  Whats better than a collection, that a collection of white ceramic ware, or enamelware.  What about a collection of wooden spoons, or rolling pins.  These things can create a lot of farmhouse style without breaking the bank.  I like to display mine on my farmhouse style reclaimed wood shelves.  My husband and I built them and they were really easy.

One of my most favorite collections would have to be baskets!  You can find so many baskets at thrift stores for pennies!  You can create a basket gallery wall for next to nothing.
