How to make easy sauteed apples for your next fall dish! I love this over ice cream and homemade caramel sauce!

It’s true, I am kind of a snob when it comes to using canned or bottled pie fillings.  Admittedly I do not make pies often, but one thing I do love it the flavor of an apple pie filling.  Rarely do I have time to make a homemade apple pie, but with just a few easy steps I can make the yummiest sautéed apples that are perfect on ice cream, on a cake, added to cupcakes, tarts and one of my favorite recipes using crescent rolls.

So, lets talk about how to make these sauteed apples with cinnamon:

I start by peeling and slicing my granny smith apples.  I like to use these types of apples because of their tartness.  I love this, but you can use whatever apples you love the most.

Sliced apples ready to be sauteed!

Once they are peeled and sliced, you want to put butter, brown sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon in a sauté pan with the apples over medium heat.

How to sautee apples

Stir the mixture around as the ingredients begin to mix together.  The brown sugar, butter and cinnamon will start to bubble and caramelize.  The apples will begin to soften.  I slice my apples thin so that they cook quickly.

I also like my sautéed apples to have a bit of a bite to them, so I cook them about 6-7 minutes and then try them.  If they are where I want them to be, I shut off the heat and let them sit for a minute.  They will continue to cook.

If you want to use them for a tart or other baked recipe, do you not need to cook them that long, depending on how long they will be in the oven. When I use them for baked items, they are usually only in the oven for 10 minutes, so it is good to sauté them a bit.

But, what do we love them on?  Oh gosh, I could just sit and eat them right out of the pan and be happy.  My kids are the same!  We love these sauteed apples on ice cream with some homemade caramel sauce.

I love these spiced apples! Make these today! Use them as a topping for your ice cream, or eat them right out of the pan!

They would be amazing on a cheesecake, or any dessert with cream cheese!  I would definitely try it on my easy cheesecake mousse!
