A New Look, Our New Black Armoire!

I did a thing today….and its something I have been thinking about doing for quite a while, but I was afraid of the reaction I would get. It finally dawned on me that I really shouldn’t care..if it makes me happy, so here you go…I painted our armoire!  It is now a black armoire.

I know some people will gasp in disgust or disappointment that I painted a wood armoire, but man I could not be more happier with out it looks! This armoire was a floor model from out local Walmart….yes Walmart!  We have had it for about 10 years and it had seen better days. I was ready to sell it or give it away really, it isn’t worth much at this point.  So I spent some time thinking about whether or not I truly wanted to get rid of it.  In the end, I know I could make it look amazing, it just needed a little bit of love.

Up until a couple weeks ago, it has been hanging out in my exercise room, storing all our violins and other music items.  I have been in dire need to clean out the exercise room, so I decided it was time to take the armoire out.  And soon after that, I knew it needed an update.

And as I have been adding a bit more color, using earth tones in my home, (YOU CAN SEE MY FULL FALL HOME TOUR HERE WHERE THIS ARMOIRE IS FEATURED!)it was either black or white.  I fooled around with some black paint I had at home, adding a bit grey paint to it and found the perfect tone! I love this paint color.  It is black but its not stark black.  It is warm, and it looks so great in the space! It’s my “new” black armoire!

I am truly happy with the change! I am so glad I decided against painting it white…which has been my go to for a long time.  It adds depth and warmth to the space.

This black armoire is a wonderful place to store extra blankets, toys and books.  I can leave the doors open or close them depending on if things get a bit out of hand and we need to hide some stuff.

The bottom is where we store our violins.  It keeps them within reach, and yet out of sight when not in use.

I love being able to use beautiful pieces as a functional piece of storage.  And by adding a basket in the armoire, I can reign in some of those odds and ends that always seem to find their way onto my living room floor.

I added some deer antlers to the top of the armoire just for fun.  I love using them in my home decor.
