A few months ago, I worked really hard on a new wall mural for a guest bedroom on the main level of our home. Well, within that time it has become my sons new bedroom. He was so in love with the mural and so we decided to give him his own room finally. He had a couple ideas that he threw at me too. One was adding more paint to the walls as well as a new desk and more. I decided to do a couple things to make it his own. As we finished up his room, and were putting it all back together we found it to be the perfect opportunity to add touches for Christmas to get us into the holiday spirit. My kids love decorating their rooms a bit for Christmas and I love it too. So let me share with you a couple easy kids Christmas bedroom decor ideas that are inexpensive, make a big impact and bring tons of holiday cheer to their rooms.

I am sharing oodles of kids Christmas bedroom decor ideas to bring the season into their space easily, and affordably!

Overall my kids have more neutral bedrooms, but have interesting color accents and items with tons of texture. There are simple ways to add Christmas decor to a children’s room with ease.

There is something about having the glow of a Christmas tree with those Christmas lights in the bedroom. I love it when all the lights are out except for the tree and you can sit and enjoy the glow. Why shouldn’t my kids get to enjoy that too! 5 Easy Kids Christmas Bedroom Decor Ideas

Now, keep in mind, my son is 12, so we wanted to make his a bit more grown up and sophisticated.

Christmas Trees

The first thing and the easiest way to add to a child’s bedroom is a Christmas tree. It immediately gives you a festive feel. Now, I am not expecting you to set up a full sized tree. No, at our house, the kids always get a small tree to enjoy. Whether it is a faux tree or a real tree having one in the room immediately adds a Christmas feel to the room. If you do not do anything else, this is one thing I would recommend. It is a great way to bring in that Christmas cheer.

We got this adorable mini Christmas tree from Walmart, and thought it would look great on his new desk which is also from Walmart. The tree is flocked and pre lit so no need for string lights! It is the perfect size too. This is the perfect spot for my son. It is a place for him to do his homework, draw or do whatever it is that kids do. The desk chair I found is so gorgeous, comfy and fits his room perfectly! I love how it looks in this space. Plus my son feels so grown up with it! It all looks even better with the glow of a Christmas tree, don’t you think?

Just this morning, I walked in his room to wake him up and with the dark morning and the glow of the Christmas tree was almost magical. The space was so cozy and with the soothing color on the new wall paneling and the wall mural, the entire space is just perfect for Christmas.

Seasonal Sheets or New Bedding

Christmas is the comfiest holiday. When the weather begins to get chilly, I always switch out our kids sheets for a flannel set. There are tons of different holiday style sheets available. I tend to lean towards the plaids and simple designs since they will last through the entire winter and not just for Christmas.  I love these plaid sheets I got on Walmart.com. They are so cozy and go perfectly with his room. Out of all my cozy Christmas bedroom ideas, these sheets are it! I love the way the new bedding looks with his gorgeous bed frame (also from Walmart). The green look from the walls and the bedding work hand in hand in creating a cozy holiday atmosphere. I stuck with traditional colors of red and green as accents for this room.

One trick I have learned is to just purchase a fitted sheet if you want to save money and do not use a top sheet. But adding the matching pillow cases is a must as well. The cozy set of sheets is the perfect addition to any bedroom. If you live in a warmer climate, maybe flannel isn’t perfect for you, but there are many other options to make sure you get the right bedding for your climate. Check out Walmart’s selection of holiday sheets here!

Holiday Wall Art

I found this adorable piece of hand drawn wall art on Walmart.com. I love that organic hand drawing style, and the little nutcrackers are just adorable. My son helped me pick it out and he loves having it in his room. I think adding wall art in a children’s room is a change to have some fun. Find something they love and incorporate it.

We have this super fun letter board on his wall, and he chose a fun quote to put on it for Christmas. I know he will be putting different ones on it throughout the season, this is such a fun thing to add to a kids bedroom anytime of year.

Throw Pillows

If you do nothing else, add a throw pillow to their bed! A simple red striped pillow, or a plaid pillow will do. When I found this adorable set of three pillows I had to have them. The two red plaid pillows along with the pillow with trees on it go so well in this room with that wall mural. I like to keep seasonal pillow covers in my closet as well that I can use to change out throughout the seasons.

You can also add just a couple simple accessories. I added some wood bead garland to the night stand. Some fresh cut greenery rounds it all out.
