Our DIY Greenhouse Design & Reveal

All the heavy duty greenhouses for purchase are so expensive.  I didn’t want to spend the money when I thought I could build one myself. I am so excited to share our new greenhouse design with you!

I came up with the design on my own. I wanted it to be in the garden, but I didn't want it to take up all the garden space! So it needed to be small.

We decided to build an  8 x 5 foot greenhouse design

We filled the area inside the beams with sand and concrete pavers. This serves as the floor and makes it easy to spray down everything.

We used pressure treated beams as the footer

We built the walls with studs at 24 inches apart. The roof was built to overhang 14 inches to give some visual weight. We built a wall 2/3 up with board and batten.

Next were the walls and roof

This sprayer takes the scariness out of airless spraying. It took me less than an hour to spray the entire building inside and out.

I wanted all the wood to be white

The goal was to do something economical that eventually we could replace with actual windows.

After painting, we screwed in polycarbonate panels

We then built shelves on the back wall

Later I decided to build myself a little desk inside

There is a light overhead, and a couple of outlets so I can use a heater in the winter and a fan in the summer. It's been really nice to have.

This greenhouse is a dream come true for me. I love being able to grow our own food and now we have a dedicated space for that!
