Spring Banner With Book Pages

I am back with another fun and fabulous spring project.  This spring banner made with book pages is so quick and easy you will want to make it today.

I know some people have a hard time being okay with this type of craft since I am using pages from old books.  This is what I have decided.  I am saving these books from a fate much worse.  I found them at our local thrift store and if they were not sold there, they were to be sent to the dumpster.  Instead of sitting in a large landfill or dump, they are getting a new life in my home.

This is what you will need for this project:

2 inch letter stencils
Sharpie Fine Point Permanent Markers
Jute Twine
Swingline 1-Hole Punch
Paper Cutter

If you are unsure about grabbing any of these items, rest assured they are an absolute must to have in your craft closet or DIY bin.  I use them more often than I dare to admit.

The first thing I did was lay my book pages together on the paper cutter.  I placed the top corner of the page up at the top of the cutter and angled it so that the center of the page was toward the bottom of the cutter.  I just eyeballed this but you could measure to make sure it is exact.  I then cut it to create the first side of the banner.

VOILA….

Now it is time to flip the pages.  I was able to cut all my pages together with my paper cutter.  This way they will all be the same.

Now line up the other side and cut .

Next up, I grabbed my stencils.  I started by tracing the letters with my Sharpie markers.

My stencil pack even came with a flower stencil.  Just right for spring.

I then colored them all in with the sharpie marker.

I then stacked all the pieces together and then used the hole punch to create two holes at the top of the pages.

I punched them all together so the holes would all look symmetrical and I wouldn’t have to worry about messing them up.

I then fed the jute twine through the holes.  I created two flower pages, one to be at the front and one at the end.

Then all I needed to do was hang it.  I decided to hang my spring banner in my breezeway, where I am currently doing a little spring updating.  I wanted to give it a more fresh and welcoming appearance.

I love to create projects from items I already have in my home.  This spring banner from book pages is no different.

We are still waiting for winter to end but that will not stop me from dreaming of spring.

Dream away.

  1. What a lovely tutorial! The banner turned out great. I love seeing all the different things you can make banners on- I figured out I could use my printer on fabric which was a lot of fun! I will have to try your tutorial!
