So, as you may have read the title and wondered what the heck? Sara does TikTok? Well in fact I do just a bit. I love TikTok for their funny animals videos, fun home decor videos and the food. Gosh there are so many great food ideas! Today I want to show you how to make the ‘legendary” pasta chips that are all over TikTok and TikTok users are here for it. I want to share how I make it into a fun and relaxed meal for the family. We are using our air fryer to make them too!
During the summer we love to eat outside. I doont want to use my big oven to cook because its so warm. We love to eat in the garden and one of our favorite kinds of meals are charcuterie board meals. Now, I take that term lightly because I am definitely steering heavily away from what a traditional charcuterie board is. What I am creating is a large cutting board full of yummy foods that people can choose from. Everyone can find something they love and its easy to customize these types of dinners to anyone, even someone gluten free like myself!
I did not want to be left out of all the fun of this Sunday afternoon treat. I grabbed myself a bag of gluten free pasta( I have found Barilla to have the best tasting gluten free penne pasta).
Okay lets talk about how to make this fun viral tiktok pasta chips charcuterie board.
The idea is to replicate a charcuterie board, but instead of cheeses, fruits and crackers, we have pasta chips, all different kinds! I hopped over to Costco(which is actually not a hop but a 2 hour drive:). While there, I found the yummiest fresh stuffed pastas there lately, so I bought a couple different kinds including a mushroom ravioli, 4 cheese tortellini, and a spinach ricotta ravioli, and gnocchi. I also gathered up a couple different dipping sauce options including pesto, marinara sauce, and a homemade alfredo sauce.
So lets talk about how to make these yummy air fryer pasta chips:
I have seen these made many different times but most of the time they are made with simple pasta like penne, rigatoni pasta, or farfalle pasta. I thought the idea of making stuffed pasta chips would be amazing, and I was right!
So first, you want to choose your pastas. I chose three different stuffed pastas, some gluten free penne pasta for myself and some gnocchi because my kids love it. Next you want to cook your pasta until it is al dente. Fresh pasta only takes a couple minutes to cook so be careful not to overcook it.
Now, you want to start cooking them in your air fryer. Before we put them in the air fryer we need to season and oil them. up a bit. I like to use parmesan cheese and a little bit of onion powder and garlic powder. You cold use Italian seasoning as well. For the oil I use olive oil.
This is how I get them ready to be put in the air fryer. I do one type of cooked pasta at a time just to keep things less messy. I put each cooked pasta in a bowl and drizzle about a tablespoon of olive oil on them. Then I sprinkle a generous amount of parmesan cheese and add some of my favorite seasonings. Toss these around until all are coated with them.
Next, add them to your air fryer. I put down enough for one single layer. You really don’t want them to be layered on top of each other. They will stick together and not get crispy on all sides.
I do this in batches. Let them “fry” in the air fryer on high for as long as it takes for them to crisp up. It should only take about 5 minutes or less. Cook times will vary depending on how you like yours. You want them to be a golden brown with a crispy perfection.
When they are done, to keep them all warm and crispy, I heated by regular oven to about 300 and place the crispy ones on a large baking sheet and let them hang out in the oven until all the rest are done.
While thee pasta chips are cooking away, I assemble my dipping sauces. I bought a delicious marinara sauce from Costco that came straight from Italy, some of their pesto, and whipped up a quick and easy white sauce or alfredo sauce. You can use whatever favorite sauce you like. These three covered all the bases having a spinach ricotta pasta, cheese tortellini pasta and the mushroom ravioli.
The kids could use whatever pasta sauce the wanted with whatever pasta thy liked! No more complaining!
When I was done frying the pastas, I arranged them all on my largest cutting board and nestled bowls of sauces around them. You could add sliced meats, such as pepperoni or salami. You could also add sliced cheeses like mozzarella. I considered adding some roasted veggies to round out the entire meal, but my kids could not wait that long!
This was a huge hit! We ate it out in our garden on a nice calm Sunday afternoon. The cleanup was easy and everyone got their pasta of choice. You do not ned a lot of oil for these. Using the air fryer speeds up the crisping process and by using simple ingredients you can make this easy flavorful as you want.
This is an easy recipe that can be customized and adjusted for those things you like. I liked that I could make this for both my family and myself even though we have different dietary constraints. It is such a versatile recipe!
Of all the TikTok trends this is one I can get on board with! Make sure to try it for yourself!
