Well friends, I am at it again. Now that I have finished my patio makeover, its time to enjoy it with some yummy summer treats! Sometimes when I start creating a certain kind of food, be it a meal, treat, or some bread, I like to go all out and create a bit of a series if you might want to call it. Over the past few months, as a family, we have been having many cookouts in the backyard with our fire pit. It’s become something of legends. Usually there is a tin din, or hot dogs, and always there are s’mores. So, this week, I want to share some of our favorite s’mores recipes. Today, I am sharing my strawberry Nutella s’mores recipe.
You see, I am actually not a big fan at all of traditional s’mores with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bar. The one thing I never liked was that the chocolate bar never melted! It really didn’t jive well with what my idea of a s’mores treat should taste like. I have also always thought that original s’mores were too sweet.
So, I decided to start coming up with some recipes that me and my family could enjoy. My kids will always be a fans of original s’mores, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try new ones.
This week, I am sharing some of our favorites! So make sure to check back all week for some of the yummiest s’mores recipes.
Today, let’s talk about my strawberry Nutella s’mores recipe.
If you are a fan of Nutella, then you will want to try this s’mores recipe! This is actually really simple to make, I don’t even feel as if you need a recipe for it, so I will simply write out what you might want to use to make these super easy s’mores.
The reason I decided to use Nutella is that its already a soft spread. There’s no need to wait for the chocolate bars to melt(WHICH THEY NEVER DO ANYWAY).
What you need to make these Strawberry Nutella S’mores
Now, this can be adjusted to your liking depending on what you like!
Here is what I use for this yummy s’mores recipe:
- roasting sticks
- Sliced Strawberries
- Thin sliced bread/ graham crackers / your favorite cookie
- Large marshmallows
I have tried this recipe with many different types of bases( the base is the graham cracker or bread)
Our kids have found the bread to be their favorite! Since we often eat Nutella simply on a slice of bread, then why not use it for a s’more.
I actually cut the bread into small rounds with a cookie cutter to make them cuter. You could definitely just cut the bread into squares. One thing you could also do is to toast the bread. This will give it a bit of a crunchy base which is nice!
You could use any bread you have on hand. I love the contrast of the savory bread with the sweet marshmallow and Nutella. French bread or a baguette would be super yummy, but I also find that simple white or wheat sandwich bread works well too! In fact, when I made these the first time, my 10 year old, with a mouth full of sweetness, said that it was the best s’mores he had ever tasted!
I mean, look a that ribbon of Nutella…yum.
I take that as a win.
Once I have my base, I slather some Nutella onto the bread or graham cracker.
Once thats done, I layer a few sliced strawberries on top. Then it’s time to roast me a marshmallow. I like mine nice and golden. I have a few kids that like theirs a little charred….thats not for me.
I top with the roasted marshmallow.
At this point you can top with a graham cracker or another slice of bread. I like to keep the top off. I find it so much easier to manage and eat this if you do.
Thats another reason why I struggled with S’mores for so long. As you took that first bit, everything squished out the sides and then you just had a big mess! Eating it without a top does help with that issue!
The acid of the strawberries helps cut through the sweet marshmallows and Nutella. Its a really great balance of sweet, tart, and a bit savory(if you use bread).
I love this easy S’mores recipe. It’s so easy to create. It does not take a lot of prep or work to make. Why not try it? Also, believe it or not, we make this when we are camping too! It’s easy enough to pack up the strawberries along with the Nutella and marshmallows.
Make sure to save this s’mores recipe for later and share with friends!
